The caterpillar on the leaf
Geometrical puzzle about congruent figures and symmetry
This puzzle imitates the crawling of a caterpillar on a leaf. A leaf is a 4×4 square. The caterpillar ate a path through it from one edge to the opposite edge, so the leaf fell apart into two identical (congruent) pieces. The caterpillar never crawls along the edge of the leaf. We know which line segments made up its path. The task is to draw an example of how the caterpillar could have crawled.

Here is a sample puzzle and solution to help you better understand the rules.
I think this puzzle can be an excellent practice of finding congruent shapes and exploring the idea of symmetry. Moreover, children can create new puzzles by themselves. To make the puzzle more challenging you can use squares 5х5 or 6x6 as a leaf.
